Vengaboys, a Dutch Eurodance group, was formed in 1997 by producers Wessel van Diepen and Dennis van den Driesschen (DJ Delmundo and Danski). Known for their vibrant, upbeat sound, the group originally consisted of lead vocalists Kim Sasabone and Denise Post-Van Rijswijk, alongside male dancers Robin Pors and Roy den Burger. Their name, inspired by “venga” (Spanish for “come on”), reflects their energetic, party-driven style. They debuted with Up & Down – The Party Album in 1998, featuring hits like “We Like to Party!” and “Up and Down,” which topped charts across Europe.
Their 1999 album, The Party Album, included the global smash “Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!,” hitting number one in the UK and charting worldwide. Other hits like “We’re Going to Ibiza” and “Kiss (When the Sun Don’t Shine)” solidified their late-90s dominance, with over 15 million records sold. After The Platinum Album (2000), which featured “Shalala Lala,” internal conflicts led to a breakup in 2002.
Vengaboys reformed in 2006 with Sasabone as the only original member, joined by new vocalists and dancers, including Donny Latupeirissa and Maikel van Hoof. They resumed touring, capitalizing on 90s nostalgia, and released singles like “Rocket to Uranus” (2010). Their 2013 track “Hot Hot Hot” became a Dutch summer anthem. The group continued performing at festivals, with a 2020 lineup featuring Sasabone, Latupeirissa, and new members Yarah Hermes and Kevin Harts. Despite a brief halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they toured extensively, including a 2024 Australian tour and a 2025 UK tour with hits like “Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!” still resonating.
As of 2025, Vengaboys remain a nostalgic act, with over 4.7 million monthly Spotify listeners. Their legacy endures through high-energy performances and timeless Eurodance anthems, keeping dancefloors alive globally.
