From the East comes a pure and enchanting musical spirit—carried by the breeze, a gentle sweetness lingers in the air.
Widely known as “Asia’s Prince of the Pan Flute,” Du Cong is one of the most accomplished wind instrument performers in China. He is a true master of nearly twenty traditional instruments, including the pan flute, guzheng, curved xiao, bawu, hulusi, bone flute, bow flute, curved flute, recorder, shakuhachi, and whistling flute. For this extraordinary versatility, members of the Shanghai music scene have given him the nickname “The Musician Who Conquers Every Hole”—meaning, any instrument with a hole, he can master effortlessly.
Thanks to his remarkable skill, Du Cong has been invited to perform in over a dozen countries across Europe and America. He has held three solo concerts in Taiwan and has released more than 30 CDs through various domestic and international labels. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Third China Golden Record Award.
His hauntingly beautiful pan flute melodies can be heard in the acclaimed albums Sister Drum (阿姐鼓), Yangjinma (央金玛), and Su Wu Tends Sheep (苏武牧羊), as well as in numerous films. His music, at once soul-stirring and deeply emotional, evokes a poetic longing that defies description.
