Air Supply, an Australian soft rock duo, was formed in 1975 by Graham Russell (vocals, guitar) and Russell Hitchcock (vocals). Meeting during a production of Jesus Christ Superstar in Sydney, they bonded over a shared love for melodic pop. After performing in local clubs, they signed with CBS Records and released their self-titled debut album in 1976, featuring the Australian hit “Love and Other Bruises.” Their breakthrough came with Lost in Love (1980), which included global hits like “Lost in Love” and “All Out of Love,” both reaching the US Top 5. The album, driven by their lush harmonies and romantic ballads, sold millions.

The early 1980s marked Air Supply’s peak, with The One That You Love (1981) producing their only US number-one single, “The One That You Love.” Albums like Now and Forever (1982) and Making Love Out of Nothing at All (1983) delivered hits such as “Even the Nights Are Better” and “Two Less Lonely People in the World.” Their signature sound—sentimental lyrics paired with soaring melodies—made them soft rock icons, though some critics dismissed their style as overly sentimental.

Despite a decline in chart success by the late 1980s, Air Supply maintained a loyal fanbase, particularly in Asia and Latin America. They continued releasing albums, including The Book of Love (1997) and Mumbo Jumbo (2010), and toured extensively. With over 100 million records sold, their enduring appeal lies in their emotive performances. The duo, still led by Russell and Hitchcock, has remained active, performing over 130 shows annually in recent years.

As of 2025, Air Supply continues to tour globally, with recent performances in the US and Asia. Their timeless ballads, celebrated for their emotional resonance, keep them a staple in soft rock, earning them a 2023 Aria Hall of Fame induction.
