"The Grand Orient Canyon" music is performed by the masterful Chinese reed instrument artist, Master Du Cong. In this album, we can hear Master Du Cong playing over a dozen familiar or unfamiliar Eastern reed instruments, such as the curved flute, bow flute, Indian transverse flute, Burmese vertical flute, eagle bone flute, Japanese shakuhachi, hulusi, xun, and bamboo flute, showcasing his extraordinary and superb skills to produce a magical and magnificent sound.
Simultaneously, "The Grand Orient Canyon" also incorporates many fascinating original folk music materials. These were all recorded on-site at various locations within the canyon by the album's composer and producer, Huang Hui. They include the unique pentatonic harmonies of the Lisu people, the profound ancient chants of an 80-year-old folk singer, and the mixed-voice choir of a Catholic church within the canyon. These sounds, after sampling, transformation, and editing, become distinctive musical elements that complement the reed instruments, forming the two main pillars of the musical structure in this album. The renowned sound engineer Zhang Xiao'an, with dedicated effort and passion, personally ensured the high-quality presentation of the music, providing a reassuring "escort" for the production.
