Melody of the Night is a celebrated piano series by Chinese composer Shi Jin (石进), first begun in 2006. Each piece in the collection captures a different mood and emotion—joy, sorrow, nostalgia, or quiet happiness—reflecting the countless nights that inspired them. Centered around the “healing music” style, every composition in Melody of the Night is tranquil and tender, creating a poetic resting place for the soul. Among them, “Melody of the Night No.5” (夜的钢琴曲 五) has become the most popular and beloved worldwide.

When you listen closely, you may feel a deep, quiet melancholy flowing through the music—like a mountain stream, like the whisper of the sea breeze, like sadness gently brushing against silence.

In 2011, Shi Jin’s original piano album Melody of the Night (夜的钢琴曲) received the Best Instrumental Solo Album of the Year at the 2011 Chinese Golden Melody Awards (华语金曲奖). The project was born from solitude—one piano, one person, one night. As Shi Jin expressed, “There are many ways to record life: some use words, some use photography, some tell stories—but I choose music. The days that pass still need to be remembered.”

He recalls many sleepless nights—often until two in the morning—when simple melodies lingered in his mind, each carrying a small story, some his own, some belonging to friends. These notes became his way of preserving time and memory through sound.

Every piece in the Melody of the Night series offers calm and reflection, inviting listeners to find a piece of their own heart within the music. In its quiet simplicity lies warmth, healing, and a timeless sense of emotional resonance.
